Icon of creative website with beach imagery Hi, I'm Sarah Conway

It's nice to meet you! These four categories describe just some of the many fields I've been involved in over 12 years of professional experience in the open source space. I approach each creative project with self-motivated energy and enthusiasm, while delivering results within reasonable timeframes. All work is well researched for best practices to ensure that the code being committed is minimal, well documented, well tested, and the most effective solution for the problem at hand. The goals of the company are taken into account, whether that's scalability for future growth of the company or codebase, adaptability, accessibility, intuitive user design, or mobile and responsive web design.

Development

I've worked for over 12 years in positions like lead website manager and senior frontend developer on a variety of frontend projects and applications both as a freelancer and in a fast paced environment at a technology company startup. My development work has included direct collaboration with marketing, design, sales, and product teams as well as managing projects both independently as a technical lead and with groups of engineers in Agile, Scrum, and other collaborative environments. Every project presents a challenge and a new technology to learn; I'm prepared and flexible enough to develop all layers of the stack from backend to frontend (including work outside of the stack) regardless of prior experience.

Engineering

I've also worked as a 24/7 technical support engineer on a support rotation providing real-time and immediate assistance to customers, seeing issues through to resolution within guaranteed response times while effectively managing client expectations and satisfaction during the process. Technical support was required for PostgreSQL database environments, HA PostgreSQL environments, and PostgreSQL for Kubernetes environments, which included installation, configuration, upgrades, query optimization, and actively troubleshooting bugs and breaks in customer production and development database environments.

Cloud

I've spent a significant amount of time developing in the containerization technology and cloud spaces, working to develop the Crunchy Data PostgreSQL Operator (GitHub) and Crunchy Data Containers (GitHub), extensions of Kubernetes that provide a high-level abstraction and solution that allows for rapid creation and simplified management of PostgreSQL clusters. I did this as a senior software engineer, technical writer, content creator, and developer advocate. This experience continued at EDB working on their proprietary database-as-a-service EDB BigAnimal as a Cloud Evangelist.

Advocacy

I'm most passionate about developer advocacy and outreach through DevRel in PostgreSQL and open source spaces. I've worked as a number of different positions to achieve this, including mentor, conference organizer, content strategist and creator, diversity committee chair, program organizer, social media manager, public speaker, front-end developer, and information architect. Through my consulting company Talk to Me About Tech, full-stack developer advocacy and DevRel services are offered to ensure your product is accessible with clear value points and messaging that relates to your end users.
